How often do you hear Grand Forks residents complain, “There’s nothing to do in this town!”? While our city may not offer quite as many opportunities as a large metropolis, I know from experience that there is MORE than enough opportunities for Grand Forks residents of all ages to indulge in entertainment, arts, and culture.
In fact, as a lifelong resident of this town and UND alumna, I have had the chance to see the symphony, classical ballet, world-class art exhibits, cutting-edge plays, rock concerts, exciting athletic events, and more – all within the city limits of Grand Forks! And, as the new Executive Director of the Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks, I am more than excited to be a part of the arts and culture scene here.
Just in the next two weeks at the Empire, you have the chance to catch a concert or two, a film, or look at our newest art exhibit! For example, you can…
-Check out a free (yes, you read that right) screening of the classic movie “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” on Wednesday, September 12. The film is part of the Art & Democracy film series, which will bring movies to the Empire big screen every second Wednesday of the month. The show starts at 7:00pm, and it is followed by an optional discussion.
-Catch Silverline in concert on Saturday, September 15 at 7:30pm. Silverline is a popular Christian rock band that has toured across 38 states. Tickets are $15 at the door.
-Stop by our gallery to view the all-new UND Art Collections exhibit, featuring works by Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein, and more. This exhibit, the first in an exciting new collaboration with the University of North Dakota, features a sampling of their extensive and prestigious permanent art collection. Gallery hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 5:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am-3:00pm.
-Watch Mason Jennings live in concert on the Empire stage on Sunday, September 23! This renowned singer-songwriter will perform songs from his new album, “Minnesota,” as well as other favorites. Tickets are available at the door, at Grand Forks Happy Harry’s locations, or at www.tickets300.com. Doors open at 7:00pm.
These events are only a few of the things going on downtown at the Empire! For more information, check out our website at www.empireartscenter.com. In the meantime, see you at the Empire!
